This was the first chair that has been mass production. This is Thonet no 14. It consists of six parts and six screws. This chair became the famous seat in the world. Now it's displayed in the design museum in New York, Paris, and London. They say that this chair was the most successful industrial product of the nineteen century.
The Thonet chair no 14 takes eight days to be produced this is because it's all done by hand.
The revolution began in 1836 with a new technique for bending the wood and it's still done as Michelle Thonet technique.
The beach is socked in steam for five hours to soften it, then the bend has three minutes to shape it into a curve before it dries and it could break.
When it comes bending of the wood, it's done by hand because only human have the necessary ability. Every type of wood is different this is because every tree grows differently and no machine can imitate that skill.

Bending the wood has made a different type of designs possible. Thonet chair has found itself at many important people like Lennon, Picasso, and Einstein. This chair wasn't important only for its design but for its packaging and storage. The small number of parts was really important it's made up from 6 curve and a few screws. By this 36 chairs were packed in transport box that was one cubic meter

This is similar to the Thonet chair because they both have the same technique bending of the wood. Although it's something modern. Nowadays it's more comment to find chairs like these in our houses than the Thonet chair. Arik Levy said, "[It's about] how to use what they've done for many years and project it into the future." The author named the chair split because the legs of these chairs are created from one piece of wood that is divided in two. He wanted to bring customers attention about the wood that has been split in two. This is made for aesthetic and functional element because the split makes the chair look more interesting and support the base. But that wasn't all the designer had created a different type of finishing. He did a gradient.
The company TON has been producing bent wood product since 1861. But this was a first that a piece of wood is split and bends at the same time.
The collection is a first for too. Bent-wood furniture has been produced at the company's facility in Bystřice pod Hostýnem in the Czech Republic since
